Description

In a way this image is also a part of my family history. Its a memory from trips to the ocean and the bay areas of Washington State. As children we picked up the tiny crabs that we found on the beach, took them home in a bucket of water, sand, rocks and seaweed. Of course they died but we were to young then to realize we were doing a bad thing. Never remove a creature from its natural habitat just for fun. A rescue of course is different and the rescued creature is returned to its natural habitat. Later, we had the experience of eating the clams, oysters, fish, crawdads, lobster and crab and Pike Place Market (Seattle) is where we bought them. I don't care for squid or oysters but like Octopus and mussles if they are cooked right. Its a toss up which is my favorite, crab or lobster...but I have to tell you, I am in Heaven today! In the 5 years that I have lived in New York, I have not seen a single advertisement in local markets for Dungeness Crab. I even toyed with the idea of having Tara (auntietk) ship some to me from Pike Place Market but its way to expensive. I went this morning to the market website and this is what I found... 1-2 lb crab is $24.75, fairly reasonable price but then add the shipping $65.00 (holy cow!) and that 2 lbs of crab is $89.75, thats just shy of $45.00 a pound! So when I saw the ad in the paper I knew someone that frequents that store and asked him to pick me up 2 lbs. $8.99 a pound, so for two pounds it cost me $18, a bit expensive for my budget but I so miss the marvelous flavor of the Pacific Northwest that I splurged. As I write this the crab is thawing and by noon I will be gorging myself on a taste of home:-)an the mental images that are of my home state. Can't wait!!! I haven't done an update on my daughter because she is still in Egypt and I wanted to share good news when she finally gets home. In my opinion Delta Airlines sucks! They took her there and they should bring her home, they credited her for the return ticket when Egypt uprising took place and now they want $4000 to bring her home (the return ticket was about $1400). I personally think she should get an attorney over this but of course she won't. So Delta, if you are out there, bring my child home!!! Thanks for viewing and any comments. I will not be around until this mess is straightened out and she is back here where she belongs so I apologize for lack of communication and comments. This image is for Tara and my Alex:-)

At least she is safe now... I do like crab but I'm not keen on things being boiled alive.

First, I have My god-daughter and one of our members here is in Alexandria so if your daughter is near there, maybe I can put them in touch. Nahla works for a large corporation there and is a lovely girl. As for this photo and you story...you're killing me. :-) I love crab and at Christmas and the heat of crab season, I can get whole boiled crab for as low as $4.99 a pound. I generally make crab cakes but I love a good King Crab whole on a platter with garlic butter dip. I have a couple of lobster tails (bought on sale) in the freezer now and a couple of crab but the crab is my favorite. I have shrimp too and a couple pounds of crawfish and I think I like the crawfish cooked in Cajun spices with corn and potaotes more than the shrimp. Yup, as a kid living on Lake Erie it was the clam bakes that took everyone's fancy, but it wasn't until I moved to the Gulf Coast that I realized there were better things in the sea than clams and lobster. :-)

This is a wonderful photo Lynn, and reminds me of when we also used to bring home creatures from the sea to keep. (mostly shells) Please message me when you get time and of course your daughter remains in my prayers. As for delta, all that can be said is you are right on about how they suck. Please convince her to get a lawyer if possible Lynn.

Oh, my friend, I am so happy for you with your crab! I know just how you must feel. A taste of home ... how wonderful! Bill and I are in Grants Pass right now, and we had dinner at a fantastic restaurant here last night. They featured Seattle cuisine, and I had shrimp and crab fettuccine. It's not like I'd been gone long ... we only left home on Wednesday ... but it was SO good. I hope you enjoy every single bite of that crab, dear one! :D

Beautiful! I hope it was wonderful feast. I recently had crab cakes and crawfish & corn bisque in New Orleans. That was good! Excellent image and narrative. I hope your daughter is home soon. My best to you both.
