Description
Where trains once ran, now a walking and cycling track.
Here you see Julie my wife trying her best not to be in the picture and in the centre a bronze figure of a little girl waiting for someone to meet her. The story is that she represents one of several evacuees from one of the cities, during the WW2, who had got off the train and all were collected by strangers who had been allotted to take them in to their homes except this one. She eventually was sorted out but what a trauma for the little girl from a big city who was 'dumped' in the country with nowhere to go!!!
The large square lumps of concrete were put there to stop the advance of German tanks should there have been an invasion.
Have a good weekend. Jeff.

Good to see a loving restoration and old tracks being put to good use
Rural idyll! Nice shot, Jeff, with some nice details in the bronze and the concrete blocks..still some remain!
Love the fact Julie has her handbag with her! I prefer to be empty handed on a walk, but a friend of mine even used to take her handbag dinghy-sailing!!
Interesting story. This does look like a very nice place to walk or cycle.
Good to see your wife featuring in one of your fine shots mate!!! Great shot. Yeah they often turn old train lines into bike riding trails over here in Oz too.
Beautful shot. Fantastic light, POV and depth!

It's so beautiful there in your place! Thanks for the touching story about the girl. So nice to see your wife. It's a great photo, Jeff.
Excellent capture! The sky looks wonderful for a walk there. :)
many former train tracks were converted here into jogging paths.superb landscape and a very attractive wife you have
We have that near Paris, for hiking
Lovely pic Jeff, did you walk all the way from Chard. its 6 miles each way to Ilminster from where we live, nice to see Julie.
That's actually quite a beautiful shot. Nice work.
A lovely capture and I'm chuckling over your Julie trying to avoid being included. That would have been very traumatic for that little girl.
WONDERFUL SHOT, WELL DONE!
Fantastic colors and shadow.Wonderful photo.
Quite a lot of history packed into this beautiful shot. Well done.
wonderful shot
What an amazing shot. The bridge over the old railway, and the tank obstacles really do it for me too. If they haven't done so already, someone should put bronze markers on those obstacles. In another generation or two, no one will know what they were put there for, or what their purpose was.
Sweeeeeet
so interesting... super!
Super stonework in the bridge in the background. Great shot and POV. Well worth a zoom! Dana
The stories of children leaving a war torn city, alone, to meet with strangers is already a heart rending one. How lonely, and scary to sit with no one to meet you. It's wonderful that they have a statue for her to remind us of her story and of all the stories of children forced to leave their families due to war. I like the expression on Julie's face. I've seen it before on the faces of my family when I point a camera their way. It's sort of a smile, but a little tight around the edges. Lovely image. Beautiful detail and depth. The sense of depth is really enhanced by the two people in the distance seen through the arch.
