I've always thought these were caused by jet planes-? The colors are very impressive!

'''i have never seen this before and would love to know what it was i had seen very strange long strings.'' HELLO! TallPockets calls them ''Sky Spaghetti '' .... Or they're playin' TIC, TAC, TOE up there. WINK. (Q: Did T.P. tell ya' that he once saw an ECLIPSE o' the SUN and did NOT heed the WARNINGS to NOT look DIRECTLY into it? Thus, his "VISIONS". SMILES). BEAUTIFUL scene/shot, dbm!
Beautiful capture. Call your local weather station and ask them if there was anything happening, like Northern Lights.
Gorgeous capture of this sunset. Dana
Thats easy, they are jet airliner contrails. They leave vapour trails when the atmospheric conditions are right and the upper winds are quiet. In europe they are pretty much a permanent part of the skyscape. Here in Australia they aren't common at all though our air traffic is much less as well.
