Description
Here is another work-in-progress image of "Star Healer Mercy" from my "Star Vessels" series. I am trying to get an image that resembles a color illustration like that in a comic book. I created this effect by using the "cartoon" filter in GIMP. I can get a very similar look by using the "poster edges" filter in Photo-Shop. I am curious what Renderosity members familiar with my work think of this style.

Interesting effect. I'm not a big comic book fan myself, so I would say something that looks more like a line drawing would be better, but that's just my opinion.
i like this effect. i tried it too some months ago with my offroad-vehicle-wip. i am really a fan of this style. and your approach looks really great.
Looks good and Ihink it works better as a more illustrative style. This looks better than poster edges in photoshop.
Nice work!
I agree with geirla that the effect I have created here is more like a line drawing than a comic book image. I am shooting for the "illustrative" style that Dann-O mentioned. Thanks for the feedback guys!
I like the look, it works for this type of image. I can see a comic book, or graphic novel based on the exploits of the crew of Mercy
I like the cartoon effect - poster edges in Photoshop doesn't look quite as good, the GIMP filter looks cleaner. There was an animated Flash Gordon cartoon back in the 80s that had a similar look to your ship and I always thought it was COOL!!! David
I think it looks great!
