Description
This is a replica of the original grave that was found at the northeast corner of the Great Plaza in front of Temple I, 'The Temple of the Grand Jaguar' at Tikal. It was found under seven feet of soil. The skeletal remains are 7 feet long, suggesting that the nobles were tall people and explaining that some of the temple steps are very tall and hard to climb, while other steps are shorter. This grave included beautiful jade objects, pieces of bone carved with hieroglyphs, pearls, pottery, and stingray spines which were used for ritual bloodletting.
This picture was taken on 29 November 2010.

I find this fascinating. Very cleaned up and easy to view. I would have liked to have seen it as it was revealed when it was originally dug up though. I bet it looked a bit different. :-)

Awesome capture!!!
How interesting, especially about the height of the people. I won't be trying those tall steps any time soon! I believe my legs are more peasant length. :)
Excellent capture and I was shocked by the info about the 7 feet long skeleton. Very beautiful artifacts included. That does explain the height of the steps. Dana
