Description
One of the things that both fascinates and saddens me is the truth of that old saying when it comes to stars. There are some magnificent spectacles in the universe about us, both of new-born stars of stunning size and beauty, and the death-throes of the same types of stars as they wrap up their brilliant but short-lived spans. Yet, if it weren't for these wonderful and tragically short lives, none of us would have been possible, as it is those stars that created the heavier elements that organic life depends upon. So we're the ashes of those stars, and we're the future of those kinds of stars as they light up our skies even now. Maybe someday we'll get to see the offspring of these wonderful lights, if we keep that saying in mind, and try not to burn out our own lights too soon.
As it is, this isn't a NASA or telescopic view, this is a fictional star shedding its outer layers and preparing for the last great flares of its last great super-nova. This was made entirely within Photoshop CS3, out of some 46 layers that contains mostly photos of clouds, or portions of said photos, a few layers of lens-flares, and a couple of layers of stars that were initially generated with the Glitterato plugin, but then heavily modified to make the scatter more random and less consisten, as well as the mini-lensflare effects. Thanks for checking this out, everyone!

Magnifique travail Gorgeous work my friend
SPLENDID creation !
Very nice nebula! Great title. I pretty much knew what to expect before the image loaded... (... might just be a supernova, my mind finished.)
Fantastic, Mike! You never fail to amaze me with your spacescapes! This is (please forgive the pun) brilliant! Jeeze - 46 layers....... :-D
Awesome. Your spacescapes are a beauty to behold.
So... it's our home too... i think ;)
This is majestic and truly engaging work. I love "real" astronomy, even when it's digitally created. Hubble and Spritzer and Chandra have shown us some marvels that are quite like this: only in exaggerated color, and I love your attention to detail, both artistic and scientific. That's what I like about all of your work (including the stone sculptures:) there's an attention to detail and an attention to reality that is undeniable--you play with reality wonderfully and create new things out of familiar things. That's always my favorite thing to behold. And this is the latest addition to a marvelous gallery full of wonders! Fantastic work...and always remember: the light that burns twice as bright, gives you a tan in half the time! Oh, just pretend I didn't say that last part.
Nobody makes a supernova like you do! heh! Most excellent work!
Nice job!! There is so much depth and motion going on in here that it really has an omnious and brooding sense of impending destruction. Nicely dramatic!
Really impressive Photoshop work, just amazing on so many levels.
WHOA!!! LOVE this one!!! David
