Description
Frigate birds occur along the seacoasts of the tropical Atlantic, Gulf of Mexico, and eastern Pacific. Also occasionally on the southern California coast, the Salton Sea, and the lower Colorado River in summer.
Frigate Birds are large tropical seabirds with a long, sharply hooked bill and a long, deeply forked scissor-like tail, opened up only during maneuvering in flight. Exceptionally long, angled wings allow spectacular soaring.
Male iridescent black with inflatable red throat pouch displayed during the breeding season. Female has white breast.
Frigate birds are superb aerial pirates. They will attack and harass other seabirds until they disgorge their prey, which they then snatch in midair or retrieve from the surface of the water or beach.
They lay 1 egg in a loosely made platform of sticks and twigs placed on top of low bushes, in crotches of limbs, or on mangroves. They may soar for days and never land on water.
Size:
Length: 96 to 104cm (37.5 - 41 inches).
Wingspan: 2.1 - 2.4m (84 - 96 inches).
Relative to its weight, the Magnificent Friagate Bird has the largest wing expanse of any bird (The Audobon Society 'Field Guide to North American Birds - Western Region'.
Locally they are often called 'Pirates of the Caribbean'.
This picture was taken on Ambergris Caye, Belize on 26 November 2010.

Wonderful capture my friend.
ferocious animals very fine capture sig.fav.
That is freakin' amazing. If the bird were standing here next to me, wings outstretched like that, her wingtips would each be about five inches from the walls. She wouldn't quite be able to see out the window. Superb capture!
