Description
The gilded grasshopper weather vane on top of Bostons Faneuil Hall was created by Deacon Shem Drowne, a well known Boston coppersmith, in 1742. Gilded with gold leaf, the copper weather vane weighs eighty pounds (36.4 kg) and is four feet (122 cm) long. The weather vane is believed to be modeled after the grasshopper weather vane on the London Royal Exchange, based upon the family crest of London's Thomas Gresham. The historic grasshopper was stolen, or vane-napped, in 1974, and was thankfully repaired and returned to its home a few months later. When I was a kid, there was a rumor that there were important papers sealed inside the grasshopper,a sort of time capsule. But alas, after it was 'vane napped' the rumor was found untrue. Some info from the CelebrateBoston web site. Photo taken September 15th 2010.

Ah, a Boston landmark! I haven't been to Boston in about 15 years...and only live about an hour away, LOL. My hubby hates cities and will keep far away from them when he can...so Boston usually isn't on our calendar.
Great zoooom
WONDERFUL WEATHERWANE
TEEErific capture of the clever and whimsical weather vane against the lightly cloudy sky, Dana.
