Description
It's difficult for me not to see the constant influences of the various Science Fiction movies and shows that I liked, and in this instance I pretty much decided to stop fighting it and let it happen. While these ships still remind me far too much of the Vorlons from Babylon 5, with hints of the Shadows, too, I'm not trying to prevent the influence this time, but figure if I let it happen it'll play itself out and then I can move on more freely.
At least, that's the plan.
At any rate, I'm actually fairly happy with these ships, no matter how derivative they feel to me. I particularly like how I was able to age down the hulls to make them rougher and older-looking.
So here we see a capital ship and her escorts on their steadfast guard duties, have they have been for ages beyond counting. Let's hope the ones who caught this moment lived to tell about it!
These ships are all my own work, modeled in Bryce, textures are also my own, with elements done in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and then Bryce. Background, planet, compositing and other post working all done in Photoshop. Thanks for taking a look, and feel free to comment, critique, tell me a story or whatever. Enjoy the second half of the weekend!

For the life of me, I can't imagine why you've attempted to suppress what you've described, particularly if this is a result of allowing things to simply flow. There are so many elements to savor in this image. But, I especially like the light trailing each ship, and how that particular light glows in contrast to the softer features and overall aura of the planetary body. And then, the aged texture on the hulls, and the sense of dimensionality. It's a beautiful piece, Michael. Happy weekend... :)
Excellent textures on those ships! I really like the design.
Excellent ships! A great sci fi scene!
wonderful looking
Wicked looking ships, Mike! I only saw a few episodes of B5, but these do kinda remind me of Vorlons. But they still have your own distictive touches. I like these a lot. Excellent work on all aspects of this!
Excellent scene and modeling. Great lighting. Corrie
Outsatnding creation. Splendid ships with excellent textures. Strange designs, but very credible as spaceships !
great sci-fi image, spaceships and mat
You're right, the materials are quite impressive, rusty and old-looking, well done! Maybe the capital ship lacks a bit of details, as I didn't notice he was bigger than the others before I read it. But nothing important. Bravo!
Very cool ship design, and the ship textures are well done...excellent scene!
curious by your latest image... i dip myself into your gallery and I love the discoveries I am making there what an Artist !
Yet another excellent image.
Yep...you got this down to a tee! I love these ships! Too bad they're not actually Nemaean, and I'm sure that there are a bunch of Nemaeans out there going Duh! How come we didn't think of that! We like spikes after all! And so there you have it, if you make Nemaeans green with envy (which takes some doing!) then you've done a great job, especially since Nemaeans exist ONLY in one particular science fictional universe over thataway. And so having said that, let me also add a heartfelt WOW! I really like what you're doing with ships. You've always had a knack for this sort of thing and your designs are always immensely satisfying and realistic, and I love the way you're keeping to that sense of realism while also exploring something a bit more...curvy. I really like this immensely...you're doing some marvelous stuff...and don't worry about something feeling vaguely "derivative". I can look at this and see YOU in it rather than influences from other SF universes; your aesthetic is distinctive and really compelling, and the meticulous care with which you create images (with backstories) is quite impressive. Yeah, this rocks! I like it a whole heck of a lot!
They actually give me a creepy-crawly feeling. I think that means its effective modeling. Heh!
