Description
On November 23, 2008, I found a twig near our hedge, in south Florida. It had strange red & black seeds/berries on it and on a dare, I posted it here on RR. It was my very first post and if you want to see it, just go back to the beginning of my gallery.
Today, on my very cold afternoon walk, I could see red berries in among the trees. I had not seen them before because of all the leaves on the trees. The leaves are gone and after 842 posts and 17,015 comments and I am posting unknown red berries again. This is what we call progress up here in New Hampshire. I also have to throw away pairs of sneakers and socks because the 6 inches (15cm) of mud was gross.
Thanks for stopping by, taking a look and for all your previous favs and comments.
They are very much appreciated.
Dana
With several suggestions, given by commenters, I will go out in this area, this summer and check out the leaves. To be continued.

Those berries against the gray background look fantastic, youshould have kept the shoes for the next time you need to go mud stomping.
Great colour! Buy a pair of decent walking boots, I live in mine in the winter!
Fine shot! I looks like red fingers: Look! We are here! ;o)
Wow, those are great for decorating the Christmas tree too. I have those but just the fake ones we get from Michael's. The real ones look even more better. Thanks for sharing!
Xcellent color contrast!
Gorgeous berries, Susan says sumac, you could google that and see if it matches...I've never seen these out in the wild, only the fake ones.
Wonderful shot Dana, fabulous contrast, loved it!
These are Ilex verticillata (American Winterberry) is a species of holly native to eastern North America in the United States and southeast Canada. It is a shrub growing to 1–5 m tall. It is one of a number of hollies which are deciduous, losing their leaves in the fall. In wet sites, it will spread to form a dense thicket, while in dry soil it remains a tight shrub. The leaves are glossy green with a serrated margin and an acute apex. The flowers are small, 5 mm diameter, with five to eight white petals. The fruit is a globose red drupe 6–8 mm diameter, which often persists on the branches long into the winter, giving the plant its English name. Like most hollies, it is dioecious, with separate male and female plants; the proximity of at least one male plant is required to pollenize the females in order to bear fruit.
