Description
Location - Berlin Main Station, Berlin-Mitte. Taken at 17th October 2010 with tripod
Hello again!
This glass house here is the Berlin Main Station, which was built between 1995 and 2006. It is Europe`s biggest tower railroad station, that means it is a cross between two directions of railroad tracks. The upper floor runs from west to east with 6 tracks, and underneath there is a station with 8 tracks from north to south.
It looks great, but it was extremely expensive (more then 1 Billion Euro). The ground underneath here is extremely difficult; all sand and clay and a very high groundwater level; directly nearby is the river Spree, and the tracks had to cross the river down under.
The main station is photographed countless times per day, and it is part of the "Festival of Lights" of course. It is not so overcrowded by photographers, so the working conditions were well this year. The colors change from time to time, and the spots are able to wandering around (in 2009 they did, recently not..)
Hope you enjoy this pic and maybe the series....
