Description
Docked with a Station in Space.
Whilst it may have looked like this new generation of Advanced Space-Shuttle was the same size as its predecessors it is in fact only three quarters the length of the ones which have flown into space before it. This is because whilst its predecessors were designed to be multi-functional when it came to mission perimeters including the launching of satellites from the cargo bay, the Advanced Space-Shuttle America, and its sister ships Democracy, Republic, Union and Pilgrim are designed for one purpose and one purpose only, to get replacement crews into space for NASAs Orbital Shuttle fleet, small amounts of consumables to the orbiting ISS and the additional specialist astronaut work crews which will be needed for the future phases of Robert Carters plans for America in space.
With regular flights planned on a weekly or even twice weekly basis there will no need for the bulk cargo transfers which have occurred in the past using the Multi-Purpose Logistics Modules or MPLMs, the huge cargo pods which had to be carried into space by the shuttle in its cargo bay and then transferred to a docking port on the ISS using the shuttles robotic arm.
After successfully docking at the new American section of the ISS the America will remain for a period of 24 hours during which time the crew will eat, sleep and run a full diagnostic of the shuttles systems before un-docking for the next phase of the test flight.

excellent scene
Can almost hear the theme to 2001 playing in the background.Great render and the adventure goes on.
If only that were true. The shuttle fleet is being retired soon, and the replacement will be a rocket. Too bad, I really loved the old spaceplanes. Nice looking render.
The problem with the shuttle was that the technologies in the ships were quite old. Remember the first flew back in 1980. The capsule for the Constellation program was design to get us back to the moon even though it looks like Apollo the guts are State of the art. Unfortunately at this time it does not seem to be even on the near horizon as long as we got the current person in the Whitehouse. What we need is both a congress and President to see the bigger picture and that is to get us back in the space race to lead not to follow. Cheers, David
great series thanks
