Description

Mildred is a leading educational bird at the small raptor rehab center where I am blessed to be a primary photographer. We are all volunteers and Mildred is that in a sense. Sure, she did not want to have a damaged wing which keeps her from flying, yet I sense she wanted to live. And she has lived in peace at the center for many, many years. She goes out on educational programs and gives people a good look at what a red-tailed hawk presents. Last night at a program in a large arboretum operated by a local university, owls were shown and a great horned wild owl fresh from healing was released into the dark sky. Mildred takes part in many programs at schools, campgrounds and public events. Care is taken that the birds are not stressed. These are not pets and are respected for what they are, even if unable to live in the wild. This is not the first of this beautiful hawk in my gallery. This photo was taken in her living area, natural light on her and camera positioned to put the background in shadow. I am pleased how it came out.
