Description
First Contact – Part 2
Once again an object approaches me. Similar but vastly different in design from the ones which had approached me once before, this is but a single object and not a group the like of which has caused me so much pain and so much damage. Would this object finish what the others had started so many years before I ask myself? I waited unable to move or to even defend myself from whatever fate would bring. What little power I had left which had been solely devoted toward my life support systems was now split into two with a much smaller part re-tasked to my outward awareness systems so that I could, at least it part, scan the object that approached me as much as possible. Suddenly my auditory systems are aware of a signal, a single voice in the vastness of the cosmos directed toward me. “To the object on our forward quarter, this is the Imperial battle cruiser Samson”. “We note your damage, and lack of movement, can we render assistance?” I am saved.
Author/Artists Notes
Following on my yesterday’s picture.
When creating the above narrative I tried to put myself in the position of the being from the planet Mechanos. Here was a creature, one of many, whose only interest until it was attacked, was to travel the cosmos observing and seeking knowledge. During that mission it had been viciously attacked. Damaged, injured, it had floated helpless for years with only the universe for company. When it once again becomes consciously aware that an object is approaching it, an object similar in composition to the one that had attacked it, it can only fear the worst. Its sense of relief when it realises that the object approaching it is not there to do it further harm but to render help and assistance is translated into a single simple sentence – “I am saved”
