Description
Owl
Creature of the night
Spirit of insight and intuition
Messenger of omens and secrets
You are a link between the dark of the unseen
And a world of light
You teach us to see behind shadows and masks
Your message is to follow our instincts
With courage that will lead us to
The freedom we desire.
Spirit Of The Owl prose by Carol Cavalaris ©
Credits: Another in my Dream Catcher series, this time paying tribute to the magnificent and mysterious all-seeing owl, sometimes called the night eagle. Created in Photoshop CS, using owl photos, painting techniques, blended with a dream catcher by Pixels 29, a background by Placebo, and a branch from Gnarlys by romanceworks.
Special thanks to Ilona Krijgsman for the use of her wonderful owl photos.
Hope you enjoy.:o)

Yes owls are wise, but, they still get plucked when least expected and this one looks mad as if if just found it's plucked feathers and saying: That's just not right man - lol... Awesome art as usual

Wonderful work !
Awesome work! (I very rarely use that word...)
it's hard to not comment on all I missed, since you have a true series here and each is beautiful in its own unique way; but I can only comment on one image per gallery today. (I still can't be here often, yet.) So I choose the most recent. But it happens to be stunning too---I agree with Craig, above, awesome work! The top owl is consummate, and its presence overpowers the sacred circle in which it sits. The detail is wonderful, and the eyes burn and pierce and have fearsome depth. The other owl, where we see the fullness of the bird (you're so often careful to show us the full creature, if even in several views), also has fierceness and majesty, as it turns to acknowledge us 'looking in'. I've read so much about the powers indigenous peoples have found in the owl, and I had no doubt of them---except I rarely saw an owl close up. Then one day, in my high high rise apartment (in downtown chicago), I came into my living room and found an owl---a real, huge magisterial owl---sitting on my ledge, not moving. I came to the window. It moved its head in the way owls can move their heads without budging their bodies an inch. It saw me with a fierce gaze and, without losing a beat, it turned back to stare out over the skyline and the lake. I watched it for a bit. Then, by accident, I dropped something on the inner ledge of the window: Most birds would take off at that instant: The owl swiveled its head in a flash---but didn't budge; it just looked, judging, assessing, even thinking what an agitated soul I was compared to it. Then it turned around and continued its meditations. I swear I could've blown-off canons in my apartment, and it wouldn't have budged. Finally, while I was working, it flexed its wings and just flew away. I saw it (happily). And it never came back. I was always told that a visit from an owl was auspicious. Well I hoped so, but to me it was simply blessed. Where it came from, in this urban, packed area, I have no idea. But THAT it came was a blessing. So I finally saw---with my actual eyes---that power and mountainous presence and gaze that everyone spoke of. As you wrote, owls are the link between the dark & unseen and light. Your detail here is amazing, as always; the joins between feathers, etc, are so often highly articulate, not merely "just there". And the cosmos surrounding it is filled with your usual illuminated light, air & spirit. A beautiful piece in this continuing beautiful series. And your words, of course, always evoke the essence of each animal.
Mark, a truly wonderful story about the great owl. What a precious gift to receive such a majestic and lengthy visit. Thank you for sharing it, and of course, for your always amazing comments. :o) CC
Wonderful work :) You know it's the kind of images I wanted to do before I started 3D, native inspired with a dream catcher in the background, a montage of native people and animals... I forgot along the way lol I also have native american medicine cards, when an animal visits you, you look up the cards and they tell you what it means :) Beautifully done!
