Description
The Sky Cities of the Terran Protectorate are one of the engineering marvels of known space. A mile across, not including the massive solar arrays or the docking ports, they hold a population of about one million citizens on average. Sky Cities are usually populated by the wealthy, and in many cases, multiplanetary megacorporations own an entire Sky City as their corporate headquarters, where they house their top people and where their corporate security forces are the law.
Most of the population lives below the surface in apartments and suites in the massive hull, with only the ultrarich, the highly influential and businesses owning the buildings that actually get to partake in the spectacular view afforded by the armored dome. The domes are a transparent form of nanotube carbon, as tough as the armor elsewhere, and one of the reasons sky cities are insanely expensive.
With the war escalating, these floating metropolises are prime targets of the Imperial Consortium. Fortunately, many have several wings of defense fighters, a massive escape pod deck and just their sheer size makes taking one down an endeavor worthy of a well-armed task force. In addition, the majority are around the "core worlds" of the Protectorate, and if the Imperial Consortium is able to strike at them with impunity, then the war is already likely lost.
Enjoy, and let me know what you think.

Very impressive image and information! Very detailed work
Interesting work,well done
Very cool! This structure looks like it would be equally at home sunk into a terrain on the planet surface.
Very imaginative. Kudos!
Actually JCD is right.. That creation looks multi-funtional, and could be used in various scenarios and scenes. Very good story image and modeling!
nice one again, like the pov over the planet
Nicely done!
wonderful scene!
Wow, nice modeling.
Incredible spacescape..Truly Amazing Work!.. -Will-
Really nice.
Outstanding!
FANTASTICA.
Excellent model creation and realization. Nicely done.
I think something a mile across is a little too small to house 1 million people. 5 miles could probably do it. Awesome picture.
Very cool! Add some propulsion and they could be flying cities like James Blish. And they could escape if the war got bad. And while CryoXero is right that a million people is pretty tight by today's standards, if we think of it in terms of volume - with the lower decks a couple of thousand feet high, then it's probably about right.
Nice piece of modeling; and I like the way you've arranged the elements in this picture.
Very nice work...
Xcellent!! congratulations!!!
This is an excellent!
