Description
It is a question worth pondering, whether or not inorganic beings can possess a soul. How does one define such things?
More importantly, how can one decide these things if something has in it the awareness of self and others, the knowledge of good and evil and the love of one or the other of these states?
These are questions for loftier minds than my own. I will only witness what I have seen and think to myself that maybe sometimes an archangel might move in a body of steel and steam.

Well, I think you've answered your own question. A soul can inhabit a body of it's choosing, however, in this case, a body of steel and steam cannot spontaneously create its own soul. It would still be a manmade construct, with manmade programming to make those choices and decisions. Does that make any sense? Who knows. Nice image. :)
The story that Amber and Michael come from (as seen primarily through the eyes of Amber and Violet) explores a few of those deep self-examining questions we humans tend to come up with and is bound up in webworks of myth, religion, history and science.
