Description
Our Lady of Good Voyage Church is a historic Roman Catholic Church in Gloucester, Massachusetts. The parish was founded in 1889. The original building burned down. The church was rebuilt in 1914 and added to the National Historic Register in 1990. It was modeled after the Santa Maria Madelena Church in Madelena, Pico, Azores. The church also includes one of the oldest sets of full carillon bells, in the United States. This was my childhood church and I was an altar boy there for many years. The majority of the parishioners, in my youth, were Portuguese fishermen and their families. Some information from Wikipedia.
Photo taken July 15, 2009 – sorry about the power lines. Cities this old, weren’t thinking about photographers, when electric power lines were installed.
