Description
Norwegian Stave churches were built, starting around 1050, when Saint Olaf brought Christianity to Norway. These impressive buildings were a blend of Christian symbols and Viking images. Note the wooden dragon heads decorating the eaves. Of the estimated 1,000 Norwegian Stave churches built in the Middle Ages, only 28 survive today. Well worth a ZOOM.
Another shot from a film camera and recently scanned.
