Description
I remember this car from when it was originally customised in the 1970's. In those days the car was black, then it was given the hi riding gasser style car painted in a bright metallic red and latter still it returned painted black with flames. Time has passed and the car has changed hands many times over the last 30 years and here it is again in it's latest incarnation. If you like the wheels they are Radir Tri ribs made in the USA see http://www.radirwheels.com
If you think the shape looks familiar, that is because Vauxhall (GM in the UK) designers stole a lot of styling influences from the 55 to 57 Chevys that came before it. The estate is like a scaled down 55 Chevy Nomad. Many of the cars were exported to the US as a small Pontiac in the late 50's and a friend of mine photographed one in Cuba recently.
The car was powered by a 4 cylinder in line engine of 1500ccs and had a three speed manual gearbox operated by a column shift lever.
I owned a two tone green 59 saloon in my late teens for 18 months and have had a soft spot for these cars ever since. (I'll have to scan a photo and post it for you all to have a giggle at)
Thank you for your comments on my recent posts and keep on capturing and posting your fabulous photos, I gain so much enjoyment from them.
