Description
Thank You and Good Bye.
With the approach, lock-on, manoeuvring and release exercises successfully completed the orbital shuttles Atlantis and Discovery return once more to their assigned docking ports on the International Space Station.
For the crew of Endeavour one final task remains before they too can return to their current home in space.
Locking on for a final time to the huge dummy payload they have been manoeuvring for the last few hours, the crew convey the test article away from its position in space near the orbiting ISS to a position on the very fringes of Earths atmosphere.
Once in position the crew release the test article and remain on station just long enough to watch as Earths gravity takes hold of the dummy payload and it starts its journey downward to oblivion.
As it falls ever more downward it will become a fiery mass of molten concrete and steel, quickly becoming smaller and smaller as it breaks up, and the remaining fragments finally fall into the Pacific Ocean so very far below.
Here ends the next series.
To be continued.
