Description
Melbourne Aquarium. The keeper was telling us that they get their seals from the same spot as I take my 'wild' seal photos. Usually they have been hurt by propeller cuts from speed boats, or have been caught up in the loop of a plastic shopping bag. Once they are fully healed, they are returned to the ocean. He pointed out that it's a sad state of affairs that even with their beautiful new facility, they never have enough room for all the hurt seals. Sadly there is a never ending supply. I'm a huge softy when it comes to the welfare of animals, and these injured seals both endeared themselves to me and broke my heart.
These viewing rooms have only been open for approximately 2 months. The keeper said these seals were like dogs of the sea. As soon as an injured animal regains his or her strength, they instantly start playing with the hoop and toys in the pool. People assume that the zoo has spent years teaching them these tricks!

This is a beautiful shot--but it's very sad there has to a place like this at all. We humans can sure screw things up.
cool aqarium shot
Beautiful capture...
We always tend to, no more often do, mess things up in this world.. Sadly, sometimes, people don't give a damn, other times it can be by accident.. But we always do.. Man is by far the most destructive, creature on the face of this planet.. And I'm forever being told and hearing that we are made in the likeness of God.. Well, we are buggered then.. Beautiful shot, at least some people care enough.. And quite obviously mate, so do you.. Respect to you.. Rob
Great shot and wonderful commentary about their great work in helping these seals recover
Outstanding capture my friend. Sad about the seals though.
cool capture , nice colors
I love these underwater viewing rooms and a great narritive about the crew at the Melbourne Aquarium. I take my hat off to them. Dana
I love these sorts of viewing rooms as well...especially when you have seals swimming around in them. I happen to have an enormous soft spot for seals as well. They're such fun creatures and I'm incredibly glad that these guys have something of a safe spot. I also love the way these guys are swimming upside down...seals do seem to enjoy that immensely.
