Description
Cocoon Deployment.
A series of movement sensors located in the nosecone of the Cocoon will detect the exact moment when its forward momentum slows and finally brings it to a stop in low Earth orbit. At this exact moment the series of explosive bolts which join the base, sides and nose cone together will fire with enough force to push the four pieces way from each other and the dummy payload contained within. Waiting a short distance away to move in on, and latch onto the huge dummy payload is the Orbital Shuttle Atlantis. Not far from Atlantis her sister ships Discovery and Endeavour wait on-station to take part in the additional phases of the test flight.
