Description
Riusciranno a coesistere sullo stesso fiore ? Oppure sarà lotta?
The carpenter bee is sipping nectar from these flowers, but his shoulder is coming someone who seems to attend the banquet. Able to coexist on the same flower? Or will fight?
The carpenter bee (Xylocopa violacea Linnaeus, 1758) is an insect from iridescent purple-black livery, the family of Apidae, widespread in central and southern Europe, often mistakenly identified with the name Hornet.
The solitary bee of 2,5-3 cm long (from head to the abdomen), the fast and noisy flight.
The Hymenoptera is one of the first that appears immediately after the winter, help him to become operational as soon pubescent and also the color black. It feeds on nectar and pollen collected mainly on flowers of Lamiaceae.
The female ovidepone in soft wood (rotting or less) in which digs cells separated by partitions, each hosting a single egg cell and a reservoir of pollen. Habit of digging into the wood of the genus derives its name (from the greek = xylose and wood kopto = cut).
It is not usual bite, only if he does not feel threatened (if you hold her hands sting for sure, but it can be to walk quietly on the palms)
Sometimes (but rarely as solitary Apoidea) can be pests because they dig tunnels in the beams of the roofs of houses. However, cases are rare and sporadic.
The body is black with shades of purple, pubescent. The wings are iridescent purple.
Good day and good week

Marvelous image! Wonderful to see the one bee busily eating away and the other one zooming in like a fighter pilot. I can't stop looking at the zooming bee! Really amazing capture! I love the blurry background. Beautiful colors and patterns! I like the blossom just left of center on the bottom. It has a lovely painted look. Excellent light and color on the main bee and flower. Marvelous immagine! Buona giornata e buon fine settimana.
