These images were taken this weekend at Lake Wright Patman, which is about 7 miles from where I live. Once each year, a local Radio Controlled Airplane club has a 2-day show at the Lake, which attracts a fair number of hobbyists and spectators. It has been many years since I went to one of these shows so I decided to see what was happening this year. We had heavy storms all night Friday but by mid morning on Saturday they had moved on and the sun came out. Unfortunately, the wind was still gusty but not bad enough to stop the planes from flying. I arrived around mid-afternoon and was glad to see a nice crowd had gathered. There were several dozen large motor homes, at least that many smaller RVs, and several dozen more vehicles with tow trailers. I estimate the crowd of spectators to be several hundred people. These RC planes average about 5 foot long with similar wingspans. The biggest one I saw was maybe 10 foot long and the smallest was maybe 3 foot long. Almost all the planes are hand made from balsa wood and they can do things no real airplane can do. In fact, they can do almost anything a helicopter can do. I saw several operators that could point the nose straight up and hover in place. Although they are built to scale, they are very lightweight and so over powered that they don’t really need the wings for lift, lol. I spent a couple of hours at the show. I enjoyed myself but I did not get any great shots. The flying area was separated from the spectator area by a chain link fence and there were a number of pavilions, club members and other obstructions between the spectators and the planes. It was difficult to get a clear shot of the planes on the ground. Here are a few of the shots I did get. The red and white one marked N32629 was the largest plane I saw there. The blue and yellow one marked EXTRA300 was about the average size of the planes at the show. Thanks to those who take the time to comment. Lee
