This is as close I have ever come to capturing the emergence of a Dragonfly from its larval shell. I don't know how long this Dragonfly had left his old skin before I got this shot, but it could not have been many minutes because the wings were still semi folded up. I will post 2 more images of this Dragonfly as it changed colors and expanded its wings. This image was taken with my DSLR - as was the 2nd image, but the 3rd image was taken with my pocket Nikon. Although I don't take many shots with the pocket camera anymore, I still carry it whenever I am outside. The DSLR will not focus on anything closer than about 3'6" and my arms are not that long so the DSLR will not take a pic of a bug on my hand, lol. The pocket camera will focus as close as about 4" and also works better for the insects that are more Ladybug sized. I have not gotten a positive ID on this teneral male Dragonfly yet but I am pretty sure it is a Baskettail and maybe a Stripped-wing one. If so then that will be a new species for me.
