Description
New York is an amazing place. I stayed at a hotel a few blocks away from the Pierre with Glenn’s brother Steve. Around 2 a.m. Steve was hungry and wanted to go out for something to eat. Being from Los Angeles where they roll up the streets just after sunset, I naively asked where we would find food at two in the morning. He replied that he didn’t know but we would find something. Down to the street and a left turn. And right next door was a bodega or grocery store. One side had the refrigerated items and on the other side were the bottles of whiskey and wine. Down the center of the store was an island with two-dozen pans containing various hot foods and salad items. So we loaded up the Styrofoam take-out containers and had a 2 a.m. feast in our mid-town Manhattan hotel room. This image was taken on our way back from the wedding to our hotel.

What a lot of cars on the road for that time in the morning! I'm glad there is a good metro system in New York, the thought of driving there sends chills. Though I'm very glad my brother-in-law is OK with it and will be picking me up at the airport. Excellent night shot. The preponderance of red is great for the devil's lair motif. Love the way it is all dark leading up to the 666. Sounds like a fun late night forage. Nice to see you posting regularly again. Taxes done? Want to do mine? I'll bet they are easier.

Interesting tale! There are towns here, (not mine, I'm afraid) where it's said they prop up their dead in the bus shelters.

It's not just Manhattan. I lived for 40 years in Brooklyn, and had plenty of all night grocery stores, diners, take away places. There was always somewhere to get something to eat. Strangely enough, we have a 24 hour bakery here in Tasmania, that serves, among other things, salad rolls, which are sandwhichs on rolls with your choice of filling. Think of a non-fast food blimpy. I like to get turkey and cranberry rolls, or chicken and sweet chilli. Freshly made and delicious. I guess I can stay here. lol

This is a great shot! I love the blur in the action and the warm red lights. The 666 is a bit disturbing though. Perhaps the red is from fire and maybe you only thought you were in NY. Lol. Great shot and great story.

Oh, it's well known to us natives that the Beast keeps a penthouse in the city. I mean, where else would he live? ;-) This is a great shot... & a fine keepsake of your travels. The avenues can be surprisingly busy at 2a.m. and surprisingly lonely. Something else we natives know all too well. T.

This is superb. It's funny: Chicago is supposed to be a big city, but I dare you to find a place with piping hot food at 2am! Smaller cities like Prague seem to have caught the New York vibe though: Prague doesn't sleep so much as just takes a little catnap somewhere between 4:00 and 4:10 am! And then it's up, and active 30 minutes later. On holidays, it's a different story! But all of that is to say that since being back in Chicago, I've missed cities with an active late-night life, and seeing this is marvelous...quite a lot of traffic for that time of night. I love the way darkness pervades this image here, and the way the urban night colors stand out so wonderfully. This is great.
