Description
The team is called the Vultures. They used to be called The Seagulls, which I thought was a better name. But anyway, this isn't the professional competition or anything. It's just a local team. If you don't know Australian Rules Football, here is a quick synopsis! 2 teams, 18 players each. If you kick the ball through the two middle goal posts you get a goal which is 6 points. If you kick the ball through the point posts which are either side you get 1 point. So the score might be 2-4-16 which is 2 goals(2x6) plus 4 individually kicked points which then adds up to 16! Which ever team has the most total points at the end of the game wins! Its very violent...every bit as rough as American football or Rugby...but the players wear NO PROTECTION other than a mouth guard. The odds of completing a match without aching like you have been hit by a truck are fairly remote!
But it sure is fun to play and watch! I support Carlton, which are the Blues! You can speak to any complete stranger in Australia about 'The Footy' and you instantly have hours of stuff to discuss! If they happen to 'barrack' for the same team as you....you have have yourself an instant mate!
