Description
This is an update on the Great Blue Heron chicks that I posted the last two weeks. The legs are developing rapidly but as you can see, the wing development is much slower. They have a long way to go, to reach the 72 inch (183cm) wingspan of their parents. Both parents were off fishing and it is a full time job, for them to feed both of these chicks. I’ve backed off of the chicks a bit so you can see the entire nest sitting on top of the tree. That is an Anhinga nesting in the lower right of this photo. Do ZOOM.
Taken at the Wakodahatchee Wetlands, March 1st.
Thanks for stopping by, taking a look and for all your previous comments and favs.

This is fun, watching these two grow up. And they obviously live in a great neighborhood!!
The zoom was incredible. They are big! I'm surprised to see they share their nesting area so close to the Anhinga's. This is a fantastic shot. Just amazing.
This tree has 3 Heron nests for a total of 4 chicks and 5 Anhinga nests for a total of 9 chicks PLUS 4 gators hanging around, under these nests, waiting for a chick to fall out. Dana
me beeing a real crappy camera man.lol, sees that this here is an amazing shot.
what? no partridge in a pear tree? Great picture, Dana
Great collection of wildlife in one tree! Careful, maybe those gators are waiting for a photographer for lunch!
Great shot but what a scruffy bunch.
Oh no not the crocs underneath, hope those babies take care. Lovely to see the other nest so close & more we carn't see, all getting on. Loving the growing up pics!!!!!
Awesome capture Dana. I never get tired of going there.
splendid image!!
Oh sweet! Great shot!
How interesting the two species share the same space. So close and living in harmony and trust I suspect. The chicks are certainly showing what they will grow up to be.
Excellent capture! Most be like a snackfood vending machine to the gators.
Fantastic image my dear friend, splendid shot as usual, perfect timing!
very nice "little" birds!
Holy cow!!! Look how big they've gotten!! Great shot!
Wonderful image!
WONDERFUL CAPTURE
Very cool capture!
Wow~ this is cool. I don't get to see these kinds of things around here. It's really neat to see the nest as well :)
Sooo... these are the babies! Great shot, Dana!
Another wonderful capture of nature...excellent shot.
fantastic shot . .lovely birds
Fabulous shot. Can't believe how close they all live together. Wish you hadn't told me about the gator though!
Fantastic image my dear Dana !
delightful kids!
Beautiful work!
Beautiful shot! I love seeing the nests up on the stilts of the branches. Great personalities of the chicks! One calmly surveying and the other rather more curious. Hope they both stay away from the croc! Excellent detail and light on the nest! Wonderful capture of the birds!
