Description
This is a Common Moorhen, taken February 2nd, at the Wakodahatchee Wetlands. They do not have webbed feet and I have not seen one swimming before. The red forehead shield is their breeding colors. They are about 14 inches (36cm) long and make a squawking noise as they are hunting in the reeds.
Thanks for stopping by, taking a look and for all your previous comments and favs.

Interesting photo! Thanks for the information
Awww....Wonderful reflexions Dana, amazing shot, very cute photo!
As odd as they are from this angle, I think I love their legs and feet the best for that light lime color. This really is a wonderful shot and shows the uniqueness of the head and coloring.
Nice shot.
nice reflection..!
Nice photo. Such calm water.

a snack for the alligator? ;-) Wonderful picture!!
fantastic capture and reflections! :)
wonderful shot!!
Very nice cature! Looks so tranquil.
Excellent shot! I've never seen these before, we only have coots. Breeding colours, eh? Maybe humans should have those too?
Wow you can see her unwebbed feet in the water, she is a lovely colour!!!!
Lovely creature, I think ours are quite different.
wonderful shot
excellent shot
Beautiful capture! I've never seen one before, so not so common to me.
This is just wonderful! I have never seen one of these birds before! And yes, they don't have webbed feet...interesting!!! Love the colors.
Superlative capture of a waterfowl I had never seen or heard of before, Dana. Somekind of mutant duck?
It was hot??? Maybe. Great shot.
Wonderful shot and commentary!
For some reason I just thought "red headed squakers" based on your description of these beauties. Ah, but my mind goes in those weird directions; I'm surprised it doesn't get me into trouble! As with the more recent post you just made (the one I just commented on before seeing this one) I love the light and the POV you have. In this and the other, there's no actual land reference to say where you are, it's just the bird and the water and that makes for a clean and crisp composition. Great color and I love the information you included as I've never seen (or heard) one of these birds. Great work!
We have a lot of them in Parc de Sceaux (10km south of Paris). I love them.
Excellent capture and work, well done, dear Dana !!! "Five stars" :) Hugs Karin:)
This is very tranquil. We don't get these in Chicago, at least not that I have seen, so that makes it even more interesting. I like that red beak and forehead. Nice. Very nice.
Beautiful work!
