After swimming for many days with hundreds of miles of water rising above him, he senses something far away in the distance. Not food. Not enemy...? Instinctively he moves closer, reaching out with all his senses. Not life? Not energy? As he moves to within a few feet from it he feels a strange tingling sensation. He backs away quickly, his instinct for caution warring with curiosity. Suddenly his whole body shudders to the tip of every tentacle! This thing. This is it! this is what he's been hunting. Risking his life for! He shivers, the freezing temperature of the water the least of his worries. As he watches it, something seems to enter his awareness. A feeling of desire washes through him. So great is this feeling that before he can stop himself he lunges forward and engulfs the thing! Sudden fear rages with a growing sense of...completion. "I need more!" As he moves off his skin shimmers in and out of this plane of existance ever so faintly. He burps loudly and in a flurry of bubbles disappears into the endless night, hunting for more of the elusive monopoles.
