Description
Happy Birthday Rob!!!
Avro Lancaster KB 882 (Type 10 A.R.) flew with R.A.F. Bomber Command No 6 Group, 428 Squadron, a Canadian formation in WW2. This aircraft flew eleven successful missions over enemy territory.
Kept in storage from 1945 until 1952, it was then used as a photo reconnaissance aircraft with the 408 Squadron at Rockcliffe, Ontario, until 1964. The KB 882 was flown to Edmundston on July 14, 1964, where it remains one of only three aircraft of this type in existence.
This monument was erected in September 1985 by 251 Madawaska Wing R.C.A.F.A. in recognition for services rendered by the R.C.A.F. and its airmen during the two world wars.

Wonderful capture! The image of the plane with the sky overhead is dramatic. Excellent POV.
I wanted to do a photograph of yours, because I remember how fine you were with a camera. So I chose this one. You obviously know planes, because your capture of this one shows a strong sense of its presence, its form and its complexity. Your pov places the plane at the lowest 3d of the photo, which makes it the center: So all that sky---and a very dramatic sky at that---is just prelude to the plane, a lead-in to the plane. It takes a lot to overtake a sky like that, but this plane does it. Also a very fine use of wide angle, you fill it entirely with the majestic sweep of these wings. And you stand so that the hills in the background sweep down to meet the fairly close to the plane's center. Also, the plane stares up, into space (the way those stone sculptures do, in that old episode I just commented on). Very strongly seen and captured, a monumental feeling to this. And a fine dedi to Rob, who I know loves planes...One can't forget that you have a very fine visual sense, both in your 3D and your photography---which is why I always try to do at least one pure image while I'm here. As always, it's a pleasure being in your gallery for a while, and I hope to return for more the next time I'm on RR. Have a fine rest of August, Flavia! This is a terrific shot!
