Description
The early days of Humanity's expansion beyond Earth and our home star were both heady, and frightening. The methods for exploration, the tools for settlements, all had to be developed very nearly from scratch. While many settlements were founded and even thrived, conditions were often difficult. Living quarters were often sparse, contact with others beyond the fellow crewmembers or settlers was typically very limited. These were very much the adventurers who were there precisely because it was an adventure, rather than ideal places to live. It is, perhaps, a testament to the adaptiveness, tenacity, and creativity of humanity that these early efforts did succeed, and laid the groundwork for a much larger expansion to follow. Here is one of the early stations established in the Alpha Centauri system that would eventually become one of the busiest hubs in the pre-war years. Now it is a grim, austere place that is preserved as a museum rather than a working station to remind future generations of the price that was paid to make the future possible.
------------
I find myself wondering how the future will see our current endeavors, and that led me to my own future history, and how they would see the times that came before them.
The station is a new work by me, modeled and rendered in Bryce 6 with a mix of my own textures and a few presets. And, while I know that a rotating station that is too long would have trouble with wobbling, I chose to ignore that "inconvenient truth" a bit because this just plain "looks cool" too much to worry about the possibility of it not quite working the way I'd prefer.
The planet and stars are all done in Photoshop, the compositing and other post working also done in Photoshop.
Thanks for taking a look, and enjoy what's left of the weekend, everyone!

Nicely done! Again, I really like the scaffolding and support structure. I don't think that station is too long. I suppose if the whole thing rotated as one, it would need some occasional correction, but if just the segments rotate, it ought to do fine.
SPLENDID Bryces scene !!! GREAT SCIFI creation !!! Splendid depth here !
Fantastic sci fi,Michael. Love all of the detail on your models. The reflections and shadows add a great sense of realism.
Wonderful composition!!!
Another fantastic scene, Michael! This is so realistic - it belongs in a movie! Amazing! I'm DLing Bryce 5.5 on my other computer - can't wait to try it out!
Lovely sci-fi Art my friend
Great great great!! ;)
Wonderful Sci Fi
Nice details! I never get tired of these!
Very cool model and presentation! Nice job on the postwork in PhoShop...5+
superb
Almost a classic Sci-Fi space station! BRAVO!
Well composed, modelled and rendered...excellent work again!
WOW! WOW! WOW! Okay, you can easily fix the wobble problem with a spin-gravity space station by simply putting more long bits on the other end to redistribute the mass more evenly. I think it would look cool too...but I like this version, and you can always install anti-wobble thrusters. As for this image. Ooooh! I like this a lot. Oh, this has such potential...and as always, your text adds an interesting and intriguing dimension. What really gets me is your use of light in this. I love the starkness of it and the way the shadows fall, picking out the details of this beauty. I love this!
Great model! Corrie
Great modeling! I'm sure it'll work - you're seeing the structure with early 21st century eyes and engineering sensibilities. Who knows what hypermaterials will be developed during the expansion...
An impressive model!! Great scene and story.
wonderful lighting here and super models too
That is one awesome model. Thanks for sharing it in this great scene.
Another fine example of what you can do to create a model with Bryce. The lighting and background are all excellent. Your skills as a modeler improves with every post. most impressive work my friend!!! All the best, David
SPECTACULAR, my friend!!! David
Excellent work, the space engine looks cool. Texture for planet is really nice too.
Very nice work. Great modelling. Have a Happy New Year.
