Description
Runaway Robot was the first real SciFi thing that I had ever read.... waaaay back when I was a wee sprog (and no... I don't count comics or watching TV... I mean real, get down and read kinda SciFi) of about 7 or 8.... the world was still in black and white in those days..
the story centered around a boy and his robot who are seperated from each other when the boy's father is transferred back to Earth from Ganymede... and Robo's don't travel with 'noids... (damn discriminatory if'n you ask me)... and the Robo tries to make his (his?...) way to Earth by any means neccesary... He (he?) hooks up with an old spacer who he crews with on the long journey home... during which time, the robo plays chess with the spacer... as a reward for being a good companion, the spacer replaces the robo's electronic eye from a monochrome pick up to one with colour... the robo can't believe what he sees now that things are in colour...
this image is from a scene in the book where the robo spends his spare time, outside the ship... looking at the stars...
favourite book of mine that I hope Hollywood never get's their mitts on... why?... because then they'll take a piece of classic, good writing and turn it into some sort of action vehicle for some fading superstar (yeah... iRobot... I'm talking about you....)
if you find the book at a used book shop and it's on cheap... buy it... Runaway Robot by Lester Del Ray (yeah.. that Lester Del Ray of Del Ray books)
Quidam image, imported into Bryce, textured, backgrounded and rendered... with a great deal of dumb luck...

I believe well that you are right in connection with films and of stories that they take and disfigure as the history of special effects like incredible. But good it there of aces which like. I like realism much best. You gave him savours of your thoughts and cIt is very well for him like.
Oh, man! I went through three copies of that book, read them until they fell apart. Now I have to go find another! Nice render, by the way.
wonderful scene!!! excellent robot and background!!
fantastic creation! the mood is really fascinating!
Can't remember reading that classic and I'm glad it hasn't had the Hollyweird make-over, sound's intriguing, so I'll keep my eye's peeled for it ! The B&W works really good on your funky texture and I really like the idea of the bot hanging outside the craft to watch the stars go by...as long as the umbilical cord hangs there ! Well done & Christmas ~Cheers~
i agree my favorite BBC Doc Who Episodes are the b&ws
Tooooooooo Cooooool!!!
Honestly, can't say I've heard of this specimen either, but I like his Chubby Checker pose 'let's twist again, like we did last summer'... Cool image... Christmas Greetings and Cheers to you & your family BB
Very beautiful and wonderful sci-fi scene my friend, excellent work.
Cool image! The first sci-fi I read was I robot by Azimov, when I was a wee sprout of 12ish. Color tv was for them rich folks lol.
This image really caught my eye ... I'll have to look out for that book as it sounds really cool.
