Description
Pizza del Campo and the Palazzo Pubblico at right, which dates from 1297. Siena is famous for the Palio, which is held twice yearly, on 2 July and 16 August, and is generally considered Italy's most spectacular festival. It is a bareback horse race around the Campo that lasts barely a minute but is preceded by pomp and medieval pageantry.
The race dates back to the 11th century, is dedicated to the Virgin Mary and was originally run through the city's streets.
This picture was taken in July 1997 and later scanned.

Wonderful!
Super cool shot :)
great foto, I remember there used to be a small toystore at this corner of the square (in the 70's), and i used to nag my parents for a bow and arrow toy until i got it, only to discover it didnt shoot far at all. ;)
Wonderful view! :)
Wonderful capture - can see a horse race would be exciting there. Great history and background.
