Description
This is a commissioned piece of player character art for a friend's Cyber knight from the Rifts Role-playing game by Palladium Books.
Cyber Knights are psychic warriors who can feel the emanations of machinery. They roam a post-apocalyptic earth as knights-errant, or hospitaller knights of old, righting wrongs, fighting tyranny and protecting the weak.
I figured something new out, which is always fun. The person who commissioned it wanted a flaming sword, but the flames couldn't go past the blade. I'd never done that before, so I had to invent a new special effect in postwork. I'm pretty happy with it, and hopefully so is he. This is one of those cases where I think I really nailed the description that was given to me...at least I hope so.
I think that sword actually looks hotter than if I'd done it as a traditional flaming blade...looks almost like a hot brand.
Enjoy, and let me know what you think.

Neat. And the sword is self-cauterizing so there is no messy blood to clean up. :)
Outstanding job!
that is one hot sword! cut and cauterize at the same time.
Excellent!!
FANTASTICA.
very cool
Fantastic image and sword!!
very good work! nice sword!
Interesting take in the Psi-Sword and the Knight :)
That's a blade that doesn't cut so much as vaporize it's way through something. Interesting and very hot appearing as its light darkens all around it. Well done.
just fantastic!!!!
Wonderful work, great effects on the sword and excellent lighting.
wonderful work!!
I know the guard and handle are reflecting the blade's glow, but it looks like it is equally hot as the blade. I keep envisioning the next picture being the guy hopping around, shaking his hand, and saying; "Ow! Ow! Ow!" heh!
Excellent! The glow effect on the blade is awesome!
now that's fantastic. The post work onthe blade is stunning and does make the whole scene, not that the rest is bad, just sets it off to perfection.
Excellent image - the sword treatment is spot on!
very nice
Stunning image...
Wow That is a Wicked hot look love the depth of the character and setting and the effect for the sword is literally "Smokin Hot" Love it!!!
Simply Wonderful!!!!
Great render and good work on the blade indeed.
Deathwalker, it's not a psi-sword. It's a magic flaming sword, I just wanted a different style to the blade.
