Description
The Merritt Island Wildlife Preserve is just north of Cape Canaveral Air Force Base. Being a few miles from the Shuttle launch pads, you can imagine the animals would be nervous. I have heard that there are mammals in the preserve but I never saw any. Even the birds are shy. I caught this little fella strolling through the grass and followed him for a short time. As soon as he saw me he flew away. Perhaps it was something I said.

I suspect it was that big black thing you were pointing at him. I have a cat who responds the same way. He's a cute shy fellow. The first two remind me of two comical aspects of birds, that make them so much fun to watch, their walking and their finding ungainly perches in the most interesting ways. But it is their flight that captures our fancy and sends us soaring into the heavens with them. Excellent captures!
