The "Way of The Circle" is passed from generation to generation, from Native elders to the children in the form of stories, traditions, customs and teachings. 1) When you arise each morning, give thanks to Creator, to the four directions, to Mother Earth, Father Sky and all your relations. 2) Remember that all things are connected. 3)All things have a purpose. 4)Honor others by treating them with kindness; always assume a guest is tired, cold or hungry. Provide them with the best of what you have to offer. 5) If you have more than you need for yourself and family consider a "giveaway" by giving to others. 6) You are bound by your WORD. You can not break it unless by permission of those you promise something to. 7) Seek harmony and balance in all things. 8) Share 9) Practice silence and patience in all things 10) Practice modesty in all things; boasting and loud behavior is not acceptable 11) Always ask permission and give thanks for all received 12) Be aware of what is around you, inside you and ALWAYS show RESPECT 13) Do not stare at others; drop your eyes as a sign of respect, especially in the presence of elders, teachers or honored persons. 14) Always greet a friend in passing 15) Never criticize or talk about anyone in a harmful way 16) Never TOUCH something that belongs to another without permission 17) Respect the PRIVACY of every person 18) Never interrupt 19) Listen with your heart 20) Learn from your experiences 21) Always remember a smile is sacred 22) Live each day as it comes I have always found the way that Native peoples speak to be so simple and beautiful and yet so strong with purpose and deeply profound. In the majority of my native work I try to incorporate the circle because the circle represents the powerful "circle of life", unity without end. I hope you enjoy the way as it is put here.
