Description
As long shadows
Stretch across the land
Calling the night in
Like a long lost friend
I sit and stare
At the mighty hawk
As he hovers over the valley
Guardian of all he surveys
The cool wind of fall
Is setting in my bones
Change is in the air
The leaves are painting the landscape
With brilliant colors
From a short lived life
The animals
Are putting on their winter coats
Those who can
Fly south for the winter
And those of us who can’t
Brace ourselves for it
It is times like this
I envy the bear
He will sleep a great sleep
And wake when it is warm again

Very beautiful words Randy...well wrote.
Very beautiful !
Randy, this is beautiful! You have made me, a southern gal who looks forward to winter as a relief from excessive heat, feel the sad melancholy of winter in the more northern climes. Very well written!

Yes I too wish I were a Bear in the winter...I'm the other Blankie Bear...lol
What wondrous vivid imagery combined with that certain melancholy that comes with dieing leaves and shorter days. Just perfect.
Autumn has a certain mood, and you've captured it beautifully. Nicely done!
I love this. Fall is my least favorite time of year and you put into words exactly the way I feel every year. I LOVE the first stanza--beautiful stuff, Randy!!
