Description
The original size intended was 1280 x 960. Render errors caused me to downsize the image to 1270 x 953; and, reduce the cache from 400 to 300 in order to get a full render without buffers not rendering. I have a home built PC with a quad core processor; and, with 4 GB of Ram (Vista Ultimate; 32 bit OS). I’m thinking I’d like to upgrade to Windows 7 (64 bit) and install the i7 processor with 8 GB of RAM.
The four populations here are: three of Walli’s plants (two different bushes and grass). Sorry but don’t remember where I got the Big Pine …thanks. It was suggested that I change the orange/yellow bush; add more bushes to the slope; and, make the rounded stones more sharp edged. Except for the stones, you’ll see the changes on the next image. I kept the stones the way they are since I like them that way.
A bit about the town of Show Low: Show Low, the commercial and tourism hub of the White Mountains of Arizona, was established in 1870 and incorporated in 1953. Located in southern Navajo County at an elevation of 6,350 feet, the city is 175 miles northeast of Phoenix and 195 miles north of Tucson. Show Low received its name when C.E. Cooley and Marion Clark decided there was not enough room for both of them in their settlement. The two men agreed to let a game of cards decide who was to move. According to the story, Clark said, "If you can show low, you win." Cooley turned up the deuce of clubs and replied, "Show Low it is."
Tomorrow I'll post the revised image.

I think the rocks are the best part of this image and would not change them...the pines seem strange for some reason... I think its the lighting and shadows. The foreground is super, including the orange/yellow bush...perhaps a bit less color and contrast but...this is excellent work and I'm sure you are going to do more with it....and share some more tips on how you did it...I hope :)
Love everything about this image, Bob; POV, trees- placement, lighting, colors and realism. So excellent!
What a splendid creation! Your foreground is one of your best! Thanks!
A very nice image with the realistic rocks in the foreground, but I am not at ease with those rootless trees. There should be dense yellow grass filling every space between the trees there.
belle creation
One of your best so far with TG2, Bob! For realism I would say there is some stuff needed under the fir trees that feel off. It's a bit to clean there. All in all great progress!
superb !
I like this a lot, Bob; compositionally it's one of your best. I thought about suggesting more grass on the dirt slope, but I think your overworked machine would suggest a better place to put it.
Nice render. 64 bit is a must for 3D work. I7 is a killer chip. Even better if you can get dual Xeons.
A superb image! Maybe make the line between rocks and grass less sharp- a few scattered rocks up higher? I remember my parents talking about stopping at Show Low when they first moved to Phoenix. Thanks for the history Bob!
Excellent image!
photo perfect, well done!
wonderful images and Textur!
Excellent scenery, Bob!!! Love the POV and lighting!!!
The hill was perfectly arranged, Bob... at first thought it is a postcard!!
wonderful work again
Everyone has said it... it feels real. Blending the rocks higher into the hill might have helped, perhaps some more grasses on the hill, but I'll tell ya what, your image captures the mood of the neglected wide open space and I just want to climb the hill to see what's on the other side. Wonderful story to go with it!!
This is a perfectly beautiful scene. I love it the way it is. Superb work, and I love the story.
Makes one want to go exploring there Bob... POV and terrain are superb. Love the rocks, would love to check them out if it were a real place, but then most of yours are from real places :) ... It's a beaut..
I like this as well. There is a prestine feel to this mountain slope!!!
Great work Bob and a nice bit of history to boot! My wife and I miss that area of Arizona! Thanks for bringing it to life with your marvelous creations! P.S. Everytime we upgrade our systems...the programmers find new and inventive ways to eat up more processing power..and more memory! We never seem to catch up for very long! :)
Beautiful...!!!
a highlight the other colored plants! ;o)
I like this one with the dry gray texture, it give the picture more tension!!!!
