Description
The grotto is one of several in the Grottes Maraa area on the West Coast of Tahiti. Until a couple of years ago those brave enough could go swimming in the pool at the base. But it is now off limits due to falling rocks.
This picture was taken on 12 August 2009.

What an experience to scroll down and see this little by little! Wow. That brilliant mid-day light giving way to subtle shades of green, with those vines hanging down, and then seeing the ferns and that dark opening in the earth ... such contrasts in light and temperature and mood ... beautiful!
This is a real Pacific island for sure! An opening in the cliff face that begs to be explored.
