Description
This may not be the smallest Dragonfly species but they are definitely the smallest of all the species in my area. They are less than 1" (24mm) long.
They seem to mimic wasps with their body coloring, flight behavior, and body posture. It is the only Dragonfly species where the female decides when and with whom to mate. As the female lays her eggs, the male hovers above her and chases off potential rivals.
