Description

One of the delights of getting from the crowds and leaving behind the over crowded tourist haunts, the mobile phones and the "me" society is that you never really know what awaits around the next bend or over the next hill. Out of nowhere appear little scenes to delight the eye and be glad to be released from the fast lane mayhem that many people call life. This is an old pack horse bridge and it is fascinating to reach scenes like this image...sit down and consider the past. Who built it,how old is it,probably in the region of 150 years or more. What were the people like who lived here. This is on the Yorkshire moors in a place called Crimsworth Dean Beck in the Calderdale valley above Hedbon Bridge, what were their lives like, harsh and hard,no luxuries, long working days and cold damp nights.Did they see the delights of this scene or was it merely something that served a purpose,to get from one side of the beck to the other. Up an over grown grass track are old farm building now in ruin, past livelihoods now forgotten. On a bright summers day this view is probably even more picturesque but on a damp September afternoon I think it typifies the realities of these damp and sodden moors...but still a delight to see.

Oh, such a lovely little bridge! It is a delightful scene, and I like it even better for being cloudy and damp...

Perfect! your ruminations are so interesting, I expect the leisure to admire the place was dictated by fast and feast and the weather.
