Description
Kovalum bordering the Arabian sea, Kerala South India. A mixture of holiday resort, working beach and a microcosm of life in this part of the world. The covered boats are part fishing boats and home to the fishermen that use them. The seafront is a mixture of hotels and small shops, mainly housing Kashmiri shop keepers, selling the most exquisite materials both made up into garments and sold as lengths of material. There are also small shops housing a man and a treadle sewing machine, where you can have a shirt or even a linen suit made to measure and finished and collected within a couple of hours. All life is here.

An excellent photo, totally amazing, I stayed here in early 1980 after arriving in Bombay in late 1979 when I headed to India for my first "big" trip backpacking, we stayed in a small room and used to go up the hill to the only hotel to drink a cup of tea as a treat! Oh I used to nick the toilet rolls too as they were hard to come by! Thanks for the memory!
