Description

Checked the National Register and there are 106 covered bridges in the state of Vermont. Also found out that this bridge was built using the “queen posts through truss” technique, in 1836. As you can see, the height limit is 10 feet and still in use as a neighborhood bridge. It is only one lane so caution needed by all that use it. Early bridges were often made of wood, especially where it was a plentiful resource. Wooden bridges tended to deteriorate rapidly from exposure to the elements, having a useful life span of about ten years. Covering them protected their structural wood planks. Thanks for stopping by, taking a peak and for all your previous comments and favs. Dana

I love this picture...I live on a road that had the last covered bridge that was still standing in my county. In fact that is the name of my road...So naturally I am drawn to covered bridges... Thank you for posting...

Great shot and a super viewpoint , you've also answered my question of why they covered them.
