Description
The broad winged hawk is a medium sized raptor, about 13 inches head to tail and wingspan 33 inches. I was down at the raptor center on Saturday, where I am very priviledged to take photos. The purpose was to get some good "id shots of younger birds" and a few talon shots to show how owls and hawks hold their talons differently when on a perch.
Well, what I got was mostly natural light shots using a prime 2.8 lens and higher than desired ISO. As you can see, depth of field is shallow.
Sure, who could resist portraits..fun shots and shots to have printed. This young broad winged hawk is totally beautiful in real life.
The broadwings are active and sometimes quite noisy birds. The companion hollered constantly at me so I did not stay long. I just love it!
With good fortune and the care being received, perhaps the other one with a healing leg and this one with a healing wing will make it back to the wild.
