Description
Deeper down into Walnut Canyon, we see a Sinagua “Lodge Home”. It is not a cave but an area where there was a soft limestone layer, in the canyon wall, that was dissolved away, by erosion, over the years. This created a shelf in the canyon wall. The Sinagua, using rock and mud were able to seal up the front of the shelf and live in the area, behind that wall, that they had built, to protect themselves from the weather elements. Sadly to say, what you are looking at, is the result of Indian relic collectors. A stick of dynamite was used to blow a large hole, in the man made wall, so they could collect artifacts, for the black market collectors. Tomorrows posting, will be the last from Walnut Canyon, with a photo of a Lodge Home that the National Park Service rebuilt so we can see what they looked like 700 to 800 years ago. I think, at this point, that I should be in the HISTORY genre but I’m going to stay in LANDSCAPE to finish this story in the same genre.
Some info from the National Park Service.

Nice shot Dana! I think the Arabs have a good idea about handling thieves; after their first offence they get named "Lefty!"
What a shame about the vandalism.

It amazes me to think of all those hundreds of years ago people were there!!!!
Oh so sad that people have to do that stuff! It still is a beautiful place but would have been awesome had they left it alone. Great capture Dana!

I don't know what to say about this, since it's been so horribly compromised. These incredible places that become so damaged and ravaged by stupid people. But thank you for the foto, and for sharing this wonderful world.
Great history, shame about the damage.
