Description
I am pretty sure this is a mature female Great Blue Skimmer. I had not seen this species before. I have been waiting for confirmation from the good folks at "BugGuide.com". This is a great site for USA and Canadian bug identification.
Within 8 days of this first siting, I got some shots of a young male Great Blue Skimmer and three weeks after that, I got a few pics of a mature male Great Blue Skimmer.
Great Blues are the largest Skimmers in the USA. They are about 2.2" long. They are considered "tame" because they do not startle easily and will allow a close approach.
The other Great Blue pics will be posted next.
