Description
Hi there.
Today the side-view of the hornet.
Please zoom for the details - you can see the place where the sting comes out, a big sting! ;-)
PS.: Jeff, please don't kill hornets - they are most of the times very friendly, not like wasps. They only sting you if you get to close to their nest or provoke them.
A hive of hornets kills about 500g insects each day, including wasps, mosquitoes and other worrisome ones too.

That's an interesting hornet, my friend. I'm used to big, mean green ones in Las Vegas. I agree with your wasp sentiments. Good photo.
I've enjoyed this lesson!
Awesome macro shot my friend, excellent capture.
very good close up
wonderful macro...but I find it cruel even when it is an insect to be honest
Nice shot, my friend!
lots of hair on that bee, great macro.
Wonderful shot and sharpness.!!
Seriously? They are friendly for the most part?! Well- ya learn something new every day- I thought they were just like wasps. I guess they can be differentiated by their lack of tapered area ahead of the thorax. Very nice macro again- in this one you can clearly see where the stinger comes out of!
Did you know it's easier to pull a hornet's stinger out then a bee's..... at least that's what I am told, I've never been conscious for it though. Awesome macro, I have never gotten close enough to see where the stinger comes out.
Very nice shot!
