My name is Tara, and I was born and raised in Washington State.
Â
In 2010 I married Bill (bmac62) and retired ... two of the best choices I ever made! :)
Â
In March, 2013, we sold our home in Washington and went on the road in our RV full time. What a blast! There is so much world out there to see!
After traveling around the West for a few years, we got rid of the motorhome and are now spending winters in deep-south Texas and summers in Washington State. Spring and fall finds us visiting whichever place strikes our fancy at the time!

Excllent questions and comments! Well done! of course it also gives the guys a misconception that women will do all those things as well.... then reality stirkes hard and fast, some of us actually learn, others though, never learn. Me - I learned.

HILARIOUS, Tara! a brilliant piece of work! ('Course, it's not really Disneys fault, he just perpetuated folk tales and myths already made up by antique MEN!)

I mean no offense with this, and agree with your sentiments. The thing that I've noticed most among the differences between the two genders is this. A guy will enter a relationship with a gal thinking that "she" will never change. A gal will enter one thinking that "he" will. The fact is (generally speaking), that they're both wrong!! A man might change,.....but that usually comes about at the end of a relationship, where he's come to the realization that he simply has no choice. The problem with this, is that by the time he's finally arrived at this conclusion, she's already emotionally moved on. Too little, too late!!

Role models---and the boys learn it's all just fine. Fine writing, full of wise words, sure to make people think. At least, I sure hope so!!
TallPockets
TERRIFIC written piece and point of view!! Old DUMB TallPockets has FIVE lovely SISTERS he'd DIE for. HE has told them MANY times over to NOT cook, NOT clean, NOT have sex with hubby and WE MEN? would be SOON crawling on hands and knees. WINK. However, YOU ladies seem to ALLOW said men? to continue this life pattern? I've never understood that. GRIN. (IF you're ever BORED, check out my IN THE BEGINNINGS written work in my gallery here - SMILE). WRITE on, KIND SOUL! My BEST to you and yours, TallPockets.

This should be required reading of all 8 year old girls.

These, and numerous other reasons are why I almost violently despise Disney. I won't even go into the racism at the core of Dumbo. But I digress...this SHOULD be required reading, not just for girls, but for boys...and ANYONE who can read. But, on the flipside of that, Soviet-Era "Cheburashka" gives Disney quite the ideological "whuppin'" it deserves, and Cheburashka is far more sophisticated and cute than anything Disney ever came up with. But that's a HUGE digression, all circling around the fact that I love the elegant, incendiary precision of this piece.

Hmmmmm, Corruption of the youth methinks Is the focal point today Push and pull them till they crack And then watch what they say. Bravo, AuntieTK. I wish that Disney would read this and revise their older fairy tales. Although looking at the current offerings - Hannah Montana, High School Musical etc... They might be changing their views already?

LOL, I loved this when you posted it, and love it now. And it's not just about disney but all the myth makers that create the image of the patient, waiting woman, holding onto her man while he goes out and battles dragons and pretty much treats her like s___. I wrote a tale about Rapunzel where the Prince says, "Let down your hair!" So she does—and it buries half of Europe. After tons of people dig their way out of a 9-million ton braid, she says, "that good enough for ya???" She then withdraws her hair (which tosses half of France in a heap), and writes in her diary: "I may be stuck in this tale, but I'm damned if it's gonna ruin me." And she walks out, her hair in a pony tail (which knocks down a few Alps, btw) and starts a new life. Disney gave those age old myths big innocent faces. (And, I may be skewered for saying this, but this site has its share of those faces, in some 3D galleries...) Well written with your usual sensitivity to the stanza, dividing your thoughts beautifully and using your usual brevity of words for power. Fine piece, and you always mix in humor too...

Well-crafted, selective, feminist screed. Good writing. Thank you for the slant-warning in your post's title.
